A full biography can be found here. Simon Felton finally came of age in May 2009 with the release of his first proper solo album called Failing in Biology. Simon has been singing and playing bass guitar with indie-pop stalwarts Garfields Birthday since the mid-1990s and became the reluctant front man in 2004 after the departure of founding member James Laming. It would have been very easy to let the band rust in peace, but instead they started playing gigs once again (including three appearances at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool, UK) and began writing/recording new material that would end up on their much acclaimed Let Them Eat Cake album completed in 2008. This surge of activity and resulting boost in confidence prompted Simon to ask Californian friend (and underground pop guru) Anton Barbeau, together with West Country psych-pop legend Alan Strawbridge (Schnauser/The Lucky Bishops) to help with his debut solo outing! The album was very well received and all concerned felt it was a project worth repeating and #2 (Surrender, Dorothy!) was released in Summer 2011! All the while, Simon continues to front Garfields Birthday, playing regular gigs both near and far, and also pops up now and again with The Steve Wilson band. So, who are you? I was born in Dorchester (Dorset, England) and lived on Portland until moving to Germany when I was thirteen, finishing my education at Prince Rupert School in Rinteln. I lived in Hannover and Moenchengladbach for about seven years before returning to the UK in 1990 and soon joined my first band. I spent the first half of the 90s playing as many gigs as possible with just about anyone that would have me; these bands included ska outift Akimbo and folk-rockers The Ramblin' Pitchforks before starting Garfields Birthday in 1995 at the peak of Britpop. After a five year stint in Bristol, I am once again living by the sea in Weymouth, dividing my time between my own music projects and running Pink Hedgehog Records. Since returning to Dorset I also completed a degree in Psychology at Bournemouth University, figuring that the experience was bound to come in handy when dealing with so many musicians on a daily basis. When I'm not busy with my music-related projects, I love reading books by Evelyn Waugh and P G Wodehouse! I am a vegetarian and I have a dog called Frodo who isn't.
